Write a Thankful List

10 things i'm thankful for todayYesterday I wrote about gratitude; specifically, about how having a thankful mindset can change your entire view on life. One habit I’ve taken to doing in the past year has been to write a Thankful List. Whenever I start to feel as though negatives are outweighing positives in my life, I sit down and write a list of everything I’m thankful for.

Sometimes my list is longer than others, but taking the time to think about the good things in life is what is important. I’ve found that that one simple act can completely turn around my way of thinking. When I’m done, I’m once again optimistic and grateful for all my blessings. I really can’t encourage you enough to do the same.

Here are 10 things I am thankful for today:

1. This blog.
I am more excited every day to have the chance to write Might & Main.

2. The response to this blog.
You are all amazing and I couldn’t be more blessed to have had such a great start here. Thank you to everyone who has mentioned Might & Main on their blogs, Twitter and Facebook.

3. Getting settled in our new town.
My boyfriend and I recently moved to a new town and have started finding little things we love about it. Over the weekend we went to the driving range. We also learned that I’m terrible at golf.

4. Trips back home.
We get to go back home this weekend for the wedding of two of our very best friends. My boyfriend and I are both in the wedding and I’m sure it will be an unforgettable weekend.

5. Great books.
I signed up for a library card as soon as I could after moving here and I’ve read some wonderful, inspiring books recently. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People was a book I expected to be a bit dry and impersonal, but it seemed like every page made me think, “Hey, they’re talking about ME!”

6. New recipes.
I love trying new recipes of any kind. I’ve started using some very delicious, very simple recipes from Jules Clancy’s free e-book Stonesoup: Minimalist Home Cooking.

7. New music.
I’ve been stuck in a music rut recently, so I was more than thrilled when one of my friends wrote an amazing blog post about tons of new (to me) musicians who I now adore.

8. The opportunity to go to church.
No worries, I’m not going to push religion here ever. But the feeling of a Sunday afternoon after an amazing church service is priceless to me and couldn’t be left off my list.

9. Of course, my family and friends.
They’re on every Thankful List I write. My family has always been amazingly supportive and my friends, I’m convinced, are the greatest people on the planet.

10. The sheer number of terrible(ly funny) jokes I’ve heard this morning.
What? I never said my Thankful List was completely serious. In fact, most of my lists are about silly times with my boyfriend, hilarious texts from friends and jokes I’ve heard. I’m thankful for the opportunity to laugh.

I’m thankful I got to kiss my 4 year old nephews buttery lips after he ate some of my linguine.

re: #5, have you tried The Success Principles by Jack Canfield. It’s a bit longer, but can be taken in smaller chunks. It’s just AMAZING!

I love your #8 as well!

I’m thankful for good days (and the bad days that make the good ones sweeter!)!

I’ll definitely check out The Success Principles soon! I’m going to the library tomorrow, I’ll grab it if it’s there. :)
    Thanks for the recommendation!

Today, I am thankful that I have the luxury of planning for the future, instead of having to spend all my time just to procure the necessities for today.
